Blogging Friends Blog Hop – Watercoloring

Welcome to this month’s “Blogging Friends Blog Hop!”

Who are the ‘Blogging Friends’? We are Stampin’ Up! demonstrators all across the U.S. and Canada. Most of us haven’t met in person, but love Stampin’ Up and want to share with you! Please join us on the 1st of every month to see what wonderful things we have created!  Each month we’ll have a different theme; this month it is Watercoloring!!

I have two projects for you today, and as I’ve done several watercoloring cards in the past, I picked two techniques I haven’t shown yet.  The first one is a clean and simple design using watercoloring for a subtle background:

www.stampinmak.com

I used both the watercoloring pencils (the Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry) and the Berry Burst ink refill for this one. It’s done on regular Whisper White cardstock. You can see you don’t need to use the watercolor paper everytime to watercolor!

www.stampinmak.com

I mixed and matched today’s cards with several stamp sets. The Happy Birthday is from Rose Wonder cut out with the Stitched framelits, and the leaves and plus signs are from the new set Oh So Eclectic. I used the coordinating framelits to cut out the leaves and the little gold pieces. I finished it off by using some of the new Metallic sequins.

This next one is using the new Glossy Paper, and the watercoloring is a little less subtle:

www.stampinmak.com

I got the paper all wet with a paintbrush first, then used various ink colors to color in the background. I just smooshed the inkpad when closed to get a little of the color in the lid to use that. I went over it once, then let it dry a bit, then went over some of the colors again to make them darker.

Once it dries, you can still tell this is the glossy paper in this angle:

www.stampinmak.com

I added a simple frame around the card by drawing a line with a black marker. The sentiment is from the new set Colorful Seasons. The butterfly thinlit die is from the Move Me set. I added some of the new copper trim behind it – I cut off a small piece, then cut it open. It’s actually like a tube of mini wire ribbon – pretty neat! I added some of the metallic sequins here, too. I picked out the copper and iridescent ones.

There are so many different ways to use watercoloring, so I hope you try them all! While you are doing that, be on the lookout for more information about some specials this month – I’m going to be having a Christmas in July card class (just narrowing down the date), and it will go great with one of the specials Stampin’ up has going on! I’ll do a separate post about that to get all the info in there.

Thanks for looking!
Mak

Blogging Friends Blog Hop – New Holiday Catalog

Blogging Friends Icon

Welcome to this month’s “Blogging Friends Blog Hop!”

Who are the ‘Blogging Friends’? We are Stampin’ Up! demonstrators all across the U.S. and Canada. Most of us haven’t met in person, but love Stampin’ Up and want to share with you! Please join us on the 1st of every month to see what wonderful things we have created!  Each month we’ll have a different theme; this month it’s: The new Holiday Catalog!!

So…. what I have decided to do is show off a few projects made at my recent classes!  I know just looking at the Holiday Catalog, you see a lot of Christmas and Halloween.. but, if you keep looking, you will find all occasions!  Here is a great example.  This one uses a few new accessories – the Pretty Paisleys Embossing folder and the Fancy Frost sequins:

www.stampinmak.comI also used the adorable Baby Bear and the Banners for You with the coordinating Bunch of Banners Framelits. I sponged some of the Pacific Point ink onto the embossed design to make it stand out more then added some silver metallic thread. You could switch out the phrase for almost any occasion!

This next one is right out of the catalog (with minor changes). It uses the Jolly Friends stamp set moose and hat. The hat was punched out with the coordinating Jolly Hat Builder punch:

www.stampinmak.com

I love the mini jingle bells added to the hat! You can also see how easy it is to use the catalog as inspiration – and then adjust to accommodate what you like! Oh, and the “Merry Wishes” is from the “Oh, What Fun” set in the Annual catalog in case you’re looking for it.

This next one I love because the basic layout can be used so many ways:

www.stampinmak.com

This uses the Cookie Cutter Christmas stamps with the Cookie Cutter Builder punch. The pretty swirly candy is from the Candy Cane Lane Designers Series Paper (DSP). And to top it all off with the sweet theme is the Candy Cane Lane Designer Washi Tape. The Real Red designs can go with almost anything.

Here’s a cutie for all those mice lovers out there:

www.stampinmak.com

The mice in this set, Merry Mice, are absolutely cute. And the best part is that you can color them which ever way you like. I used a few different markers with a blender pen on an acrylic block. It gives the colors a more subtle look than a full strength marker. The DSP is from the Annual Catalog, and check it out! It’s This Christmas and it’s a specialty paper since it’s a little thinner, and you get twice as much! To top it off with bling, I added some gold metallic thread, as well as a gold star from the Metallic Enamel shapes.

This last one I struggled with deciding if I wanted to include it or not, as it is a  direct copy from one of the wonderful Stampin’ Up Artisan Design Team Members, Allison Okamitsu, over on NicePeopleStamp. First I’ll show you the card, then I’ll show why I decided to include it after all!  Here is her cute original layout:

www.stampinmak.com

I added some Wink of Stella to make the antlers sparkle. 🙂
I did this for a class since I thought it was so cute, and the Cable Knit Dynamic embossing folder was a hit! I stapled the red metallic Candy Cane Baker’s twine to the card with our stapler.  I even gave the class attendees options… here’s the moose they could swap out:

www.stampinmak.com

It works well both ways!

So, here’s what brings me to keeping this one on here….
One of the class members decided to make it a birthday card in the holiday season, and switched out a few things… which I always encourage – if you need a different sentiment, we can do that!  However, it the was end result that had me laughing…  The folks in class realized they could also use the Cookie Cutter punch to make the bow tie.. so they dressed their reindeer up a bit… and then this showed up:

www.stampinmak.com

Oh My Goodness. I laughed. and HAD to take a picture! It’s the ‘cool’ reindeer that looks like he’s had a few too many! 🙂  I’m sure she won’t mind me sharing her lovely creation with the world – we all loved it.

Well I hope you’ve enjoyed your tour through some of the cool new products available in the new Holiday Catalog!  If you need to order anything, just hop over to my store and order away!!  There are a few specials going on this month, so take a peek at those, too!  If you have questions – just let me know!

Now…. Please take the time to hop on through the rest of the Blog Hop today, you will be heading over to Tammy, and I hope you enjoy everyone’s projects!

Blogging Friends Blog Hop – Retiring Products

Welcome to this month’s “Blogging Friends Blog Hop!”

Who are the ‘Blogging Friends’? We are Stampin’ Up! demonstrators all across the U.S. and Canada. Most of us haven’t met in person, but love Stampin’ Up and want to share with you! Please join us on the 1st of every month to see what wonderful things we have created!  Each month we’ll have a different theme; this month it’s: Retiring Products!

www.stampinmak.comYep, it’s that time of year again where we make room for the new by saying goodbye to the old! Click on the Farewell image to be taken to the online store with retiring items. Some items are even at a discount!

Well, it turns out I have made quite a few cards over the past year with some of the products that are now retiring. Some I’ve shared and some I haven’t yet. I decided to gather up a bunch of them to share with you today – since pretty soon these will be retired and I don’t want you to miss out!

Some of these I’ve done at my classes and some I’ve modeled after ideas I’ve seen online, or I’ve been given a sample and asked to recreate something similar. These all have some retiring products on them, and I’ll point those out.

Here is a simple yet elegant card using the Sassy Salutations greeting:

www.stampinmak.com

This next birthday card uses the Big News stamped greeting, and the heart punch from Itty Bitty Punch Pack to make the bottom of the balloon (just overlap the hearts).

www.stampinmak.com

Here is a very fall-ish card using the For All Things set. It also has the Gold Metallic Baker’s Twine and some Typeset Designer Series Paper:

www.stampinmak.com

This next one also uses a few different retiring items, featuring the Vivid Vases single stamp. It’s also got the flower from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack, the Silver Metallic Baker’s Twine, the Stylish Stripes embossing folder, and Crystal Effects on the flowers to make them shine… ALL retiring!

www.stampinmak.com

Stepping back (or really far forward) to Christmas time, here is a fantastic winter tree scene using the White Christmas set:

www.stampinmak.com

Here are some more that I’ve already featured on my blog, but wanted to highlight them again now that the items are retiring.

This is an older card, so I know the DSP used isn’t around anymore, but I wanted to point out the stamp and punch used. It’s the Festival of Trees stamp set with coordinating Tree Punch. I wanted to show you this stamp doesn’t have to be used only for Christmas. 🙂
If you click on the following pictures, they will take you to their original posts.

www.stampinmak.com

This one was my first try at the Northern Lights technique, of which I still need to try again.. I think I see a video in the future for it 🙂   It’s got The Open Sea for the ship, and the sentiment is from Project Life Remember This:

www.stampinmak.com

Here is a lovely set that can be used any time of the year to support the troops, For Your Country:

www.stampinmak.com

This next one was my Bokeh technique, and highlights the sentiment from the Hello Life set:

www.stampinmak.com

And, last but not least, I have to show of a kitty cat card (or 3)…
This set, You Little Furball, made me so happy, then I was extremely sad to see it on the retired list. BUT….. for all you animal lovers out there… you will NOT be disappointed by the new catalog! WOW…I can’t wait to start sharing some of the samples I make with those as soon as I can get my hands on them! 🙂
Here are the three with this set that I’ve posted here a while back:

I couldn’t help it… It is such a fun set!

I hope you enjoyed looking through these, and if you want to purchase anything before it’s gone forever, click on the catalogs on the left of my blog or the “Shop Now” link in the menu at the top.   Hopefully everyone gets what they are looking for, but you have to act fast – since some items are ‘as supplies last’!

Thanks for looking around this time, and click on through to see the rest of the hop!  Tammy is next on the list, and you can get there by clicking the picture below –

Blogging Friends Blog Hop – Apr2016

Blogging Friends Icon

Welcome to this month’s “Blogging Friends Blog Hop!”

Who are the ‘Blogging Friends’? We are Stampin’ Up! demonstrators all across the U.S. and Canada. We haven’t met in person, but love Stampin’ Up and want to share with you! Please join us on the 1st of every month to see what wonderful things we have created!  Each month we’ll have a different theme; this month it’s: Our Favorite Stamp Set (or two, or three..)!

Since I’ve been a demonstrator for almost 13 years, I have LOTS of favorites… It was hard narrowing it down, but I did… to just one. Maybe one day I’ll go back and pick my top 10.. but that’s not for today. 🙂

Having picked the one set, I decided to do a technique video on Masking. Check out the video, and then continue reading on for pictures of the cards featured in the video, as well as hopping over to the rest of the wonderful blogs in this month’s hop!  Here’s the video for your amusement:

Pretty neat huh?  I think I’m getting the hang of it… mostly… well, at least I’m figuring out how to do more things with this whole video thing. There’s no stopping me now! Mwaa haa haaa! 🙂

Here are some pics of the cards featured:

Here’s another that I really liked… I love BOTH of those stamps from this set:

You can see I did some selective inking on that one to hide the base of the group of trees. This way it looks like they are in the snow.

And here are some more that have been featured on my blog in the past, you can click on them to go to those posts:

And, here’s one more for a bonus… an oldie, but a goodie.. I only have a picture of this, and as you can see, I love using this tree on vellum!

So, now that you have lots of ideas for the Lovely as a Tree stamp set, hop over to Tammy’s site to see what she has for you today!

Thanks!
Mak

Happy Birthday 2-step stamping video

Hey folks!

So this video thing is pretty cool.. but it’s going to take a few tries to get all the wrinkles out, I can see that!  I took a crack at making a few more, but still need to edit some of them down a bit.. so stay tuned for even more.  The one I have for you today was another card from my past class.  It’s using one of the Sale-A-Bration sets, What I Love, as well as the sentiment from Rose Wonder, in the Occasions catalog.

www.StampinMak.com

* Don’t forget there are only a few more days left for you to earn FREE products during Sale-A-Bration. It ends on March 31st!   If you’ve got a wish list you need to tend to (please use the Hostess Code:  AWD2Q7MF), or if you want to join my team, this is the time to make that happen!
SAB is the best time – since you can earn even more when you join the fun before March 31 by joining my team. You can read more about that by clicking here: Join Mary Ann’s team!

Ok…. back to the video…  This is a 2-step stamp, although I think I only referred to ‘stamping off’ when I was explaining the technique.  This is a cute card I saw from Lisa Young online and thought it was perfect for a quick flowery birthday card. I used Island Indigo and Pear Pizzazz for the flower and leaves. I added some rhinestones for some sparkle.
The trick with this one was to not overthink it! Just stamp away.. again and again. That’s what makes this one cool, there’s no perfect lines! It’s supposed to be a bit messy. 🙂
Check out the video and let me know what you think.

As for the video itself.. yes… I know the table was shaking a bit.. I’m working on fixing that. 🙂  and, I love getting schooled on “youtube” with pointers from my kid. :/  not sure how I feel about that one yet. Apparently he watches more videos than I do, and took it upon himself to go look up my video and watch it so he could critique it. HA! what a nice kiddo.
